Suaraanaknegerinews.com – In Auckland, New Zealand, the Muslim community is a diverse and thriving group that actively maintains its religious and cultural traditions. Supported by the local government and the Auckland city council, the community enjoys an environment of religious tolerance, allowing them to practise their faith openly and harmoniously. This support is evident in the various activities that take place throughout the year, especially during Ramadan.

As Ramadan begins, the spirit of togetherness becomes even more apparent. Each evening, different families take turns hosting iftar gatherings, where everyone brings a dish to share. These gatherings are not only an opportunity to break the fast together but also include religious talks that offer guidance and inspiration throughout the holy month. This daily tradition strengthens bonds within the community and deepens the spiritual experience of Ramadan.

Weekly gatherings also play a significant role in the Muslim community. Held in communal venues, these meetings provide a space for religious discussions, spiritual talks, and social interactions. They serve as an important platform for learning, exchanging knowledge, and reinforcing faith.

One of the most anticipated events before Ramadan is the pre-Ramadan bazaar, which brings together Muslims from various cultural backgrounds, including Malaysia, the Middle East, and other regions. This bazaar showcases a variety of foods, clothing, and Islamic essentials, creating a lively atmosphere that enhances the anticipation of the holy month.

Having lived in Auckland for 15 years, I have witnessed the warmth and inclusivity of this city. Running a tour operator business in New Zealand has allowed me to engage with people from different backgrounds and introduce them to the country’s cultural richness. In addition to tourism, we are also committed to promoting high-quality Indonesian products in the global market through international trade events in various countries.

Ramadan in Auckland is a truly enriching experience. Beyond the iftar gatherings, acts of charity become a major focus. The community organises food drives, fundraising initiatives, and support for those in need. These efforts highlight the core values of Ramadan: compassion, generosity, and self-reflection. The Auckland Muslim community is also known for its openness and engagement with the wider society. Many Ramadan events welcome non-Muslims, offering them a chance to experience and understand Islamic traditions. This inclusivity fosters stronger interfaith relationships and promotes cultural appreciation in New Zealand’s multicultural society.

For me, spending Ramadan in Auckland has been deeply meaningful. The combination of religious devotion, cultural diversity, and strong community support creates an atmosphere that makes the holy month even more special. Despite being far from Indonesia, I have found a second home among fellow Muslims who share the same values and traditions.

As we continue our journey in this country, we remain grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Ramadan in an environment that respects and embraces religious diversity. The support from the local government and the wider Auckland community serves as a reminder of the importance of unity in a multicultural society.

With each passing Ramadan, we cherish the experiences and connections that make this month so memorable. The shared moments of prayer, reflection, and giving remind us of the universal values that bring people together, regardless of their background. Ramadan in New Zealand is not just a religious observance; it is a celebration of faith, unity, and cultural harmony. @syariefthalib. (Arsiya Oganara)
