Winged Cocoon
yusuf achmad
For Hamka, Kinasih, and Melati
A cocoon transformed into a butterfly,
Through centuries of countless moons.
Fasting, thirsting, enduring,
A dry body, sharp eyes—
Ready with two wings,
Soaring across the wide skies.
Gathering your wings among the stars,
Rivaling the sun’s radiant heights.
Bring both your sides together,
Flying free, rowing the winds.
Remember, never forget anyone,
Wing together, bask in light.
Sail through the colorless heavens,
Reflections of an old soul’s steadfast hope.
To the youthful, winged cocoon:
When the veil parts in twilight orange,
And beads of clouds illuminate,
The winged butterfly triumphs.
The elder’s message remains:
Let the day moon shine,
Not a sun of misfortune or sadness.
