E’Snun is an event in the evenings before everyone goes to bed. There are no beds at that time indeed. This event is belongs to a group of adult men and young when considered okay.

They are grouped together outside the Kampoeng along the coast every evening to drink a kind of alcohol taken from coconut flower nectar. It is an art in itself considering the steps around the action to get the essence of the nectar which came out inform of liquid.

Every morning you go and climb up the choosen coconut tree. How to choose best one? Usually by determine ceritain characterstics of the tree such a strong rather big trunk and a visual symetrical set of its leafs. You cut the bunch of the coconut flower which you already tighten altogether using rattan rope. You start cutting that bunch in two or three cuttings to make sure it is a neat cut. You get the liquid out of this neat cut. You tighten up a bamboo strip to hold the liquid from the sliced bunch of the coconut flower.

You leave it there till the next morning. When you return you will find out that the bamboo strip is almost full of the nectar liquid. You replace the bamboo strip with a new one. You bring down the one that almost full. This nectar liquid will rest for the day till evening will become sour indicate it already turn into a alcoholic liquid due to a natural fermentation process.

This essence liquid is the one which will be taken to the – E’Snun – event every evening to be distributed among the men who come to celebrate the day by drinking togehter.

The liquid called – saguer – in local Indonesian dialect. The liquid will distributes a small black shinny coconut shell

So E’Snun by its nature is when you celebrate the Day by going to bars to have a drink with your friends. The difference is the members of E’Snun are the same people and same place all the time. No women involved.

This is a practice you will probably find only in Kurudu for its time
