In interviews my colleagues and I conducted, PRFM revealed its long journey, its strategies for presenting the news, and its relentless efforts to maintain listener trust amidst fierce digital competition.

Officially established in 2009, PRFM was once known as Radio Perempuan (Radio for Women) during the 1990s. The transformation of both name and concept marked a turning point—a shift to better meet the needs of Bandung residents who increasingly crave accurate and reliable information. This evolution symbolizes more than just a rebranding. It reflects PRFM’s deeper commitment: not merely to exist, but to evolve with the times.

When we visited PRFM, it was clear that the station has chosen a distinct path. While most radio stations fill their airtime with music, PRFM stands out through its focus on news and public information. Its vision and mission are straightforward yet ambitious: to become Bandung’s number-one radio station by prioritizing quality and accuracy in every piece of information it delivers.

One of PRFM’s most defining strengths is its speed in delivering verified news. Much of the information they broadcast originates from citizen reports—quickly verified with authorities such as the police before being aired. According to one reporter, the confirmation process usually takes no more than five to ten minutes. This system allows PRFM to provide timely updates without sacrificing credibility. Listeners receive information that has been checked and confirmed, not mere rumors or unverified claims.

When asked about its biggest challenges, PRFM admitted that maintaining relevance remains a constant test. Yet, the team sees it not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to innovate. “We strive to remain relevant by delivering accurate and high-quality information to keep the public engaged,” PRFM stated during our interview. In an era flooded with social media noise and misinformation, PRFM’s reliability has become its most valuable currency.

Behind its sustainability, PRFM also receives support through government advertising collaborations. This partnership not only provides financial stability but also strengthens PRFM’s role as a trusted public communication channel for Bandung residents. Government support, combined with professionalism in content production, ensures that PRFM continues to serve as both a credible source of information and a voice for the community.

The blend of speed, accuracy, and consistency has enabled PRFM to maintain a loyal audience even as new media platforms rise. Many Bandung residents still turn to PRFM, especially during emergencies or major local events, trusting it as their first and most reliable source of news. From its humble beginnings as Radio Perempuan to its present identity, PRFM has proven that radio is far from obsolete. With innovation, integrity, and trust, it continues to resonate with the heartbeat of Bandung.

PRFM stands not merely as a radio station, but as a reliable information partner that connects truth with its listeners.
