Yamagata Prefecture Government Welcomes the Visit of Laus D.C. Rumayom, Chairman of APS Center for Development and Global Studies, Alongside the Yamagata Papua Friendship Association

Wednesday, 4 November 2025 – Mr. Kano Kenya, Director of the Multilateral Coexistence and International Exchange Promotion Division, Department for Innovation, together with Deputy Togoshi Koji, officially welcomed Laus D.C. Rumayom, Founder of Analisis Papua Strategis and Chairman of APS Center for Development and Global Studies, accompanied by Dr. Richart Patty, Director of APS CDGS, Stephanus Sremere, Secretary-General of APS CDGS, and Sonni Lokobal, Chairman of APS Papua Highlands, at the Yamagata Governor’s office.

Mr. Kano Kenya expressed his gratitude to APS for its collaboration with the Yamagata Papua Friendship Association, which has fostered a bond of friendship for over 30 years. The Yamagata government has consistently paid close attention to the development of Papua, implementing numerous programs over the past three decades. Mr. Kano emphasized that the Yamagata-Papua friendship should continue to advance, leveraging Yamagata’s expertise in agriculture, the automotive industry, and information technology to benefit the progress of Papuan society.

Laus D.C. Rumayom, Chairman of APS, expressed appreciation to the Yamagata government for engaging in discussions on the prospects of Indonesia-Japan cooperation to support Indonesia’s development, particularly for the youth of Papua, in the fields of culture, education, economy, and democracy. He also called for full support from the Japanese government for the Yamagata Papua Friendship Association, which has implemented programs to develop vocational skills, enhancing both soft and hard skills among Papuan youth to meet the challenges of the global workforce.

The Yamagata Prefecture expressed its readiness to continue visits and expand cooperation with the Papua government, particularly in boosting economic growth and trade. The prefecture also welcomed Indonesia’s efforts to reopen international flights between Biak and Tokyo, supporting Biak’s role as an international trade hub in Eastern Indonesia and contributing to the Indo-Pacific economic corridor.
