Suaraanaknegerinews.com – Ramadan is the ninth month in the Hijri calendar that is highly anticipated by Muslims around the world. This month is a time full of blessings, forgiveness, and mercy from Allah SWT, where Muslims are required to carry out fasting for a whole month. Ramadan is also known as the month of the Qur’an and is referred to as a very special month of worship for Muslims.

The Virtues of the Month of Ramadan

There are many virtues of the month of Ramadan that make Muslims look forward to its arrival. One of its virtues is that during Ramadan, the gates of heaven are opened, the gates of hell are closed, and demons are shackled. This is stated in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW:

Hadith Narrated by Bukhari and Muslims: The Prophet SAW said: “When the beginning of the night of Ramadan comes, the demons and the jinn who are very evil are shackled, the gates of hell are closed and not a single door is opened, while the doors of heaven are opened and not a single door is closed. And a caller exclaimed: ‘Come here, O you who want goodness. O you who desire ugliness, bear up.’ (This hadith was narrated by Imam At-Tirmidhi, Imam Ibn Majah, and Imam Ahmad, from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)

This hadith is not associated with a specific event, but was conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad SAW to explain the virtues of the month of Ramadan. The opening of the gates of heaven, the closing of the gates of hell, and the bondage of Satan illustrate the abundant grace and forgiveness of this holy month, as well as an opportunity for Muslims to focus more on worship without the distraction of Satan

This hadith confirms that Ramadan is a golden opportunity for every Muslim to multiply their worship and draw closer to Allah, because the temptation of Satan is reduced during this month.

Ramadan and Fasting

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. In the Qur’an, Allah SWT commands Muslims to fast during this month as a mandatory worship.

Evidence in the Qur’an: Allah SWT says in surah Al-Baqarah:

“O you who believe! It is obligatory for you to fast as it is obligatory for those before you to be pious.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 183)

This verse explains that fasting in the month of Ramadan is not only an obligation, but also a means to achieve piety to Allah.

Lailatul Qadar: A Better Night than a Thousand Moons

One of the biggest features of the month of Ramadan is the existence of Lailatul Qadar, which is a night that is better than a thousand moons. On this night, the Qur’an was revealed for the first time to the Prophet Muhammad SAW through the angel Gabriel.

Evidence in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, We have sent down (the Qur’an) on the night of glory (Lailatul Qadar). And do you know what the night of glory is? The night of glory is better than a thousand moons.” (QS. Al-Qadr: 1-3)

Lailatul Qadar is a night full of blessings and forgiveness. Muslims are encouraged to increase their prayers and worship on this night in order to get double rewards.

Hadith Narrated by Bukhari: The Prophet SAW said: “Whoever stands (praying) on Lailatul Qadar with full faith and hopes for rewards, his past sins will be forgiven.” (HR. Bukhari)

Important Events in the Month of Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is also a witness to several important events in Islamic history, including:

The descent of the Qur’an. The Qur’an was first revealed on the night of Lailatul Qadar in the month of Ramadan. This marked the beginning of revelation to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, which later became a guideline for all Muslims.

Badr War. One of the biggest wars in Islamic history, namely the Battle of Badr, occurred on the 17th of Ramadan in the 2nd year of Hijri. This war was a battle between the Muslims and the Quraysh of Makkah. With Allah’s help, the much smaller number of Muslims managed to win this battle.

Fathu Makkah (Conquest of Makkah). On the 10th of Ramadan in the 8th year of Hijri, the Prophet Muhammad SAW and his companions conquered the city of Makkah without any bloodshed.

Fathu Makkah was an important event that ended the hostility between Muslims and the Quraysh of Makkah, as well as a key moment in the spread of Islam.

Conclusion

Ramadan is a month that Muslims around the world have been waiting for because of its great virtue.

In this month, Allah SWT opens the opportunity for every Muslim to achieve double rewards, forgiveness, and happiness.

From fasting to Lailatul Qadar, as well as important historical events that occurred, Ramadan is a month full of blessings that bring goodness to Muslims all over the world. (Arsiya Oganara)
